Where Recolo fits among the apps you know.

Notes apps, AI notes apps, meeting transcribers and voice memos each solve one part of remembering. Recolo is built for the whole of it: capture without writing, organise without filing, and ask across everything.

Four kinds of app, one job

Every tool in this space is trying to help you remember. They differ in what they ask of you. Written notes apps ask you to write and file. AI notes apps ask you to write, then help with the filing. Meeting transcribers do the writing for one kind of conversation. Voice memo apps capture anything and organise nothing.

Recolo is a second brain that fills itself: it captures meetings, calls, voice notes and reading, writes and files the notes, links them into a knowledge graph, and answers questions from all of it with the sources shown. Here is how that compares, kind by kind.

Kind of appBuilt forWhere Recolo differs
Written notes apps
Notion, Obsidian, Evernote, Apple Notes
Notes you write and organise yourself, in pages, folders, links or databases. In Recolo you do not write the note. Meetings, calls, voice notes and reading become notes on their own, and the brain files them by the people and projects they mention.
AI notes apps
Mem, Reflect, Notion AI
Typed notes that AI helps you tidy, link and summarise, and answers questions about.Recolo starts from speech. Most of what people would want to remember is said, not typed, so the raw material is the conversation itself, with the transcript kept.
Meeting transcribers
Otter, Fireflies, Fathom, tl;dv
A transcript and summary for each meeting, often by sending a bot into the call.Recolo records in the room on your iPhone and on your Mac without a bot, and connects every meeting with your voice notes and reading in one memory you can question across time.
Voice memo apps
Apple Voice Memos, Google Recorder
Fast audio capture, saved as recordings in a list.A Recolo voice note is transcribed, summarised and filed beside what it mentions, so you read it rather than replay it, and can ask about it months later.

Recolo and written notes apps

Notion, Obsidian, Evernote and Apple Notes are excellent at what you type into them. The cost is the typing, and the filing, and the day you stop doing either. Recolo does not replace a place to draft a document; it replaces the memory you were hoping the notes would become. Many people keep a written tool for writing and use Recolo as the note-taking app for everything that was said rather than typed.

Recolo and AI notes apps

Mem, Reflect and Notion AI add organisation and answers on top of notes you write. Recolo begins one step earlier, with the conversation. The transcript is kept, speakers are separated, and the brief, decisions and action items are written for you. The knowledge graph is built from what was said, not from what you remembered to type afterwards.

Recolo and meeting transcribers

Otter, Fireflies, Fathom and tl;dv give you a transcript and a summary per meeting, often by adding a bot to the call. Recolo records on your iPhone in the room and on your Mac at your desk, with no bot, and treats a meeting as one note among many. Ask "What did I promise Maya last month?" and Ask Brain answers from every meeting, voice note and article that touched it, not from a single transcript.

Recolo and voice memo apps

Voice Memos and Google Recorder are the fastest way to capture a thought and the slowest way to find it. In Recolo a voice note is transcribed, summarised and filed in the graph within a minute, so you read it rather than replay it, and it comes back whenever the person or project it mentions comes up.

What Recolo does not try to be

Recolo is not a document editor, a task manager or a team wiki. It is a memory. The Studio will write a document, a presentation or a post from that memory, and the MCP connector will bring it into Claude or ChatGPT, but the drafting, the tasks and the team pages can stay where they are.

Questions about switching

Is Recolo a Notion or Obsidian alternative?

For some people, yes. Notion and Obsidian are for notes you write and organise yourself. Recolo is for the notes you never wrote: meetings, calls, voice notes and reading, captured and organised for you. Many people keep both, with Recolo as the memory and a written tool for drafting.

Is Recolo an Otter or Fireflies alternative?

Recolo covers the same job of transcribing and summarising meetings, without a bot in the call, and goes further: every meeting joins a memory with your voice notes and reading, and you can ask a question across all of them with sources.

Can I move my existing notes into Recolo?

You can save links and documents into Recolo, and each one becomes a note in your graph. Bulk import of other apps' notes is not available yet.

Can I use Recolo alongside the apps I already have?

Yes. Recolo's MCP connector lets assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT search your Recolo memory, and the Studio writes documents and posts from it that you can use anywhere.
